Here in Georgia, we are often asked, "What is Green Roofing?" In a nutshell, green can be generally defined as reuse, reduce and recycle.

Reuse components, such as used cedar shingles which can be shredded into mulch and used on nature trails, as well as residential landscaping. Because cedar decomposes, it doesn’t need to end up in a landfill. New recycling possibilities are being developed for used tar shingles. We prefer our customers to install their new sustainable, Energy Star Cool Metal Roofing material directly over their asphalt shingles. Slate roofing can be taken off, broken up, and utilized as landscaping gravel. If you remove a used metal roof, it can often be re-applied on sheds, or sometimes recycled in Georgia. Reduce energy usage, for you. Every watt makes a difference, and it all piles up. Reduce material wastage. The important thing here is to ensure that any material is recycled or used again for other purposes and is not wasted. More green roofing choices.

Recycle. Roofing metals are easy to recycle, and one can even get reimbursed for them at a scrap center. Most any plastic materials can also be recycled, but you will normally need to cart it to a recycle center in Georgia. Happy Metal Roofing Customer Testimonial

An Excellent Metal Roof, Plus Customized Extras

I knew, beforehand, what I wanted in a stone-coated metal roof. Years earlier, I had one such installed on another house. But, this time, I wanted more. I wanted to use the same stone-coated metal roofing material to install custom soffits and fascia encasing the gutters and downspouts. I spent months searching in vain for a metal-roofing contractor who would embrace my aspirations, ideas and design. Finally, I found Bill Cooper at Southern Metal Roofing, who not only agreed to collaborate with me on the project -- but did so with great enthusiasm. We held joint planning meetings with the roofing foreman, the materials supplier and the metal-working technicians who would work closely with me to implement a complex project requiring constantly evolving design concepts to meet the technical and aesthetic requirements faced as we worked towards our goal. The result: not only a superb roof, but matching soffits and fascia completely hiding previously unsightly gutters. A marvel of home beautification that has elicited many favorable observations from neighbors and passers-by. A special word of acknowledgement and thanks to the superbly qualified metal-working technicians who not only implemented, effectively, my basic ideas, but contributed their own professional design inputs. Such a project, obviously, had many unforeseen inputs and resultant budgetary implications. Bill worked amicably with me to balance the books in fair and equitable fashion.

Georgia, South Carolina players in limbo
The Georgia-South Carolina matchup looks even more attractive than it did back in August. Both teams were extremely impressive in their openers. There won’t be any shortage of players on the field who can change the game in a hurry this Saturday in Williams-Brice Stadium, and both defenses look to be rock solid, not to mention very well-coached. The one difference about the opening week was that ...

Georgia Tech opens with balanced run game
The day after No. 16 Georgia Tech beat South Carolina State 41-10, Paul Johnson scoffed at less important numbers from the game. Johnson said Sunday he may be the only one who isn't worried that Joshua Nesbitt completed only one pass. Johnson sounded even less concerned that new starting running back Anthony Allen did not have big numbers in the opening win.
